Power & Broadband Bundles NZ 2026 — Best Combined Plans

Updated

Some New Zealand utility providers offer combined electricity and broadband plans — letting you manage both bills with a single provider. Bundling can simplify your administration and sometimes offers a small discount, but it’s worth checking whether the bundle is genuinely competitive or just convenient.

Quick answer

Three NZ providers offer meaningful power + broadband bundles in 2026: Electric Kiwi, Contact Energy, and to a lesser extent Mercury Broadband. Of these, Electric Kiwi is typically the best value for most households. Always compare the bundle total against getting each service separately — convenience shouldn't cost you $300/year.

Who Offers Power + Broadband Bundles in NZ?

Electric Kiwi — Best Bundle Overall

Electric Kiwi offers both electricity and fibre broadband. Their bundle saves approximately $5–$15/month on broadband compared to standalone pricing.

What you get:

  • Electric Kiwi electricity (competitive rates + Hour of Power)
  • Fibre broadband on the Chorus/Enable/LFC network
  • Single provider, single login, combined billing

Broadband plan options (2026):

  • Fibre 300 (300/100 Mbps): ~$70/month standalone, ~$60–65/month as bundle add-on
  • Fibre 900 (900/400+ Mbps): ~$85/month standalone, ~$75–80/month as bundle add-on

Best for: Most NZ urban households who want value on both electricity and broadband. Electric Kiwi’s power pricing is competitive and the broadband is solid Chorus fibre.

Contact Energy — Best for Gas Households

Contact Energy offers electricity, piped natural gas, and broadband — potentially bundling three utilities under one provider.

What you get:

  • Contact Energy electricity (standard competitive rates)
  • Fibre broadband
  • Gas supply (where available — Auckland, Wellington, Hamilton, Tauranga)

Bundle discount: Small — typically $5–$10/month off broadband for combining with electricity/gas.

Best for: Households with piped natural gas who want to consolidate all utilities. For electricity-only households, Electric Kiwi’s bundle is usually better value.

Mercury Broadband

Mercury Energy launched a broadband offering to complement their electricity business. The bundle is relatively new and pricing is developing.

What you get:

  • Mercury Energy electricity
  • Fibre broadband
  • Combined billing

Best for: Mercury electricity customers in Waikato/BOP who want to add broadband without switching their power.

Is Bundling Worth It?

The bundle question comes down to: Is the combined price competitive, or are you paying a convenience premium?

To check:

  1. Get the bundle price from your preferred provider
  2. Compare the electricity component against Powerswitch
  3. Compare the broadband component against best standalone plans (Skinny, Voyager, BigPipe)
  4. Add them up — if the bundle total is within $50–$100/year of the cheapest separate plans, the simplicity is worth it

Watch out for: Some bundles lock you into the same provider for both services. If your electricity provider’s prices rise, you may feel reluctant to switch because it means also changing broadband. This inertia effect can cost you money over time.

When to Consider Separate Providers

If you’re particularly price-sensitive:

  • Best electricity: Check Powerswitch for cheapest at your address (may be Frank Energy, Electric Kiwi, or Flick depending on region)
  • Best broadband: Skinny Broadband (~$55/month for 300Mbps), BigPipe, or Voyager for budget; Spark or One NZ for premium features

Keeping providers separate gives you maximum flexibility to switch either one independently.

Three-Way Bundle: Power + Broadband + Mobile

No NZ provider currently offers a competitive three-way bundle covering electricity, broadband, and mobile from the same company. The UK and European model of triple-play bundles doesn’t exist in NZ’s electricity retail market. Mobile and electricity/broadband remain separate markets.
